Writing the Synopsis: Resources
I've written several novel-length works now, and I find the first draft the easiest part of writing. Editing is tough, but with the help of my critique group, I'm working my way through that. Writing the query letter - also tough. But by far the thing that causes me the most headaches (probably due to the pulling of my hair in frustration . . .) is writing the synopsis. So, I've put together a list of some of my favorite synopsis resources, hints, tips and tricks for your perusing pleasure. Here they are in no particular order:
How to Write a Synopsis by Marg Gilks
A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing the Fiction Synopsis by Pam McCutcheon
How to Write a Synopsis by Nathan Bransford
How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method by Randy Ingermanson (this is actually sort of a backwards way to get to the synopsis, but this may be useful to you)
How to Write a Synopsis by Brenda Coulter (geared towards romance, but a darned good article)
OK, I guess I've put it off as long as I can. I need to go write one of the darned things now.

Exactly what I needed! I hate hate hate writing these dirty-darned things!
