Snow, Snow, Go Away

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am fed up with this weather. Granted, I live in Missouri, so I don't expect balmy temperatures, but this is ridiculous! This cold weather is hard on the animals (though our Husky doesn't mind it so much), and it's hard on me. I find that it affects my mood, everything. It's been over 2 weeks since we've seen our driveway. By the time I get finished watering the stock, it's dark and I'm tired and cranky. So, what's this got to do with writing, you ask? Last week, I missed my Morning Pages more than I got them done. I did no editting on WW at all. I just could not get into it, could not concentrate. I didn't even sign up for BIW this month, which is extremely rare for me. And I think it is the weather. It is a problem that must be solved. When you have a run like this, what do you do about it?

I got up earlier this morning, so I would have time to water the dogs and horses, and still have time to write my Morning Pages. I resolved to write a blog entry tonight, no matter what (mission nearly accomplished!). And I will schedule time to edit in at least three blocks of time over the rest of the week. I will edit in my office, where it is light and bright. I will listen to cheerful music while I edit - something that reminds me of summer. And I will light a candle that smells like ocean breezes. Maybe I'll even wear my Johnson Space Center hat and a T-shirt. Anything to remind me of warmer weather.

As always - there is a challenge for you. Examine your writing and how it relates to the weather. Does weather or season affect your writing? If it does affect your writing, how can you use it to your advantage? (On a side note, remember that weather adds an interesting layer to your writing!)

Stay warm,
Elle
