The Joy of Being Alone
Let me start by saying that I love my family totally and completely. My husband is my best friend. He may drive me nuts at times, but I love him. He's the one I want to travel with, he's the one I want to watch movies with, he's the one I want to be with. My daughter is the light of my life. Everything I do, I do with an eye to how it affects her, how it benefits her.
That said - I love being alone. I'm sitting here tonight alone. My husband is playing pool, and my daughter is spending the night with her cousin (no school tomorrow). The barn cat (who am I kidding??) is curled up next to me on the couch, the puppies are play-fighting, and Sci Fi is showing Enterprise start to finish. Life is good. I used to think that I could not be alone. Should not be alone. I didn't know what to do with myself. As I grow more comfortable with myself, I realize that time alone is a time to recharge one's batteries. I no longer feel that I have to do something during that time. If I am in the mood, I will scrapbook, catch up on correspondence (written or electronic), take a bubble bath, or maybe just sit and watch television. Not everyone will agree with me, but I happen to enjoy watching TV. It's a stress reliever. And I don't see anything wrong with watching it, as long as it isn't mindless watching. No. I take that back. Sometimes mindless watching is okay. I do that every now and then. Honestly, I'm not actively watching. My mind is usually a thousand miles away. But sitting and watching gives me time to let things percolate, and time to relax.
What sorts of shows do you find yourself watching, if you watch television? I have always been a Star Trek fan (watch Enterprise - there's just something about Trip), and I love the James Bond movies (Sean Connery was awesome). I'm fortunate - my hubby likes both series. It gives us commonality.
OK, I'll admit that I am rambling. But that's the great thing about alone-time. It gives your mind time to ramble, time to explore it's paths.
Take time to be alone this week. Explore the inner workings of your mind. Get to know yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Laurie! I know what you mean about being alone--I think that's why I'm self-employed, though sometimes it does get 'lonely.' It's been nice having my hubby self-employed, too, and around more!
Hey, here's a 'Trip' for you--I have a friend who used to work for Enterprise, and he took me on a tour of the set. I actually got to sit in the captain's chair, and he gave me a piece they used for the com system! Cool, huh?!! I used to LOVE Star Trek, but now I like shows like Medium and Ghost Whisperer, paranormal stuff.
Happy Writing!!
