Release the Words

Happy BIW week! And I'm already hitting road blocks. I put many of these road blocks up myself. I know better, but I am at times terrified of the blank page. Even the blog entries that I have grown to love are difficult at times. This week is one of those weeks. Yet, here I sit, with Deal or No Deal playing in the background and my puppy curled up beside me - and my fingers on the keyboard of my laptop. I still procrastinated - I checked email, I did a little genealogy research, I watched TV, I entered the DOND online game (hey, I COULD win the $10K!). But I promised myself I would make this entry tonight. And I know that I will have to check in with Moe and let her know how many pages I got done. I do NOT want to check in with nothing but my Morning Pages. I hate doing that. I already feel bad enough, writing-wise, for missing my writer's group meeting tonight (hubby had plans tonight, so no one to watch my kiddo). So, I showed up at the page and pray that my muse decides to whisper in my ear.

One of the best things you can do to become successful is to MAKE time to pursue your dreams. It's not the end of the world if you don't have a full-course meal every evening, or if you don't do the dishes every night. So, it sits. So what? Is it the end of the world? Nooooo! But what if you found out tomorrow that you had cancer - what things will you be glad you did? The dishes? Or spending time pursuing your dreams? I know what my answer would be. Have you seen the commercial for paper plates, the one about taking time to do the fun things - and using paper plates to make it happen. Spending time playing with your kids instead of doing dishes. It makes me think that I very well may get rid of all my dishes and buy paper plates for every day use!

OK, so you've made the time to pursue your dreams. Mark it on the calendar. Buy frozen pizzas for the week. Stock up on coffee and tea. Charge your laptop and get your favorite journal out so you can do your morning pages each day to get yourself in the habit of writing. Show up at the page and trust in your muse.

If you do nothing else today, write at least one word. Start a story. Finish a story. Move your story along. That's all I ask. One word. Go do it. Now. And let me know if you are able to stop after that one word, or if your muse whispered in your ear.

Happy writing,
Elle
