The End of an Era
It finally happened. KC, my last
Maine Coon cat, passed away on Saturday. She was 16 years old, and had
been sick. It was not unexpected, but still a very sad time for me. She
was, in a way, the last remaining link to my previous life. She was my
breeding female. I showed her to "Champion" and I delivered her
kittens. I slept in the guest bedroom with her when she was pregnant.
She travelled with me to shows all over the midwest. She was a part of
my life for 16 years. And she was my last show cat.
I refer to that life as my "previous life". Parts of it were horrible, and I'm glad it is in the past. But other parts of it were wonderful. Showing cats was wonderful. I travelled, I made friends, I set goals and reached them. The cats were the most satisfying part of my "previous life". They were my children and my confidantes.
I no longer have the luxury of pursuing a hobby like that, of taking off one weekend a month. I am a wife and mother, a paralegal and writer. Don't get me wrong - I am happy with my life. But there are times I miss that freedom to pursue my dreams.
I buried KC Saturday, next to JR Kitty. It was a sad time, and I offered up a prayer for God to give her catnip & kitty treats, and lots of love. I'll miss you, KC.
